In 1992, the dream of breeding high quality Lusitano horses came true at HARAS DAS MANGUEIRAS. The Lusitano horse was chosen because of the breed’s extreme intelligence, beauty and docility. In order to reach its goals, HARAS DAS MANGUEIRAS purchased Lusitanos of excellent bloodlines, possessing the breed’s best characteristics.
Today, HARAS DAS MANGUEIRAS maintains a herd of about 65 well-bred horses, including 10 broodmares that offer the best of the Veiga-Andrade bloodlines. These mares produce excellent quality foals by HARAS DAS MANGUEIRAS owned stallions, Luar Das Videiras, Mel Or and the syndicated stallion, Dragao (now deceased).
The foals of HARAS DAS MANGUEIRAS are raised in large pastures living care free lives under the careful supervision of a full time farm manager and his staff of qualified help, including professional veterinary care.
Only when our young horses are fully developed are they started in training under saddle, following the gentle methods of classical dressage.
The atmosphere of the farm is relaxed and a comfortable environment for both our Lusitanos and the people around them.
HARAS DAS MANGUEIRAS is located on 32 scenic, gently rolling country acres. Two modern barns contain 32 stalls. Stallions are turned-out in grassy paddocks. There are large scenic meadows for the mares and young stock. Our pastures feature the safety of board fences and lush grass, creating an idyllic way of life for the horses.
A large outdoor arena is used for year-round training in the warm climate of southern Brazil. An indoor arena is available for training during rainy days and for all types of related equestrian events.
The ultimate goal of our facilities and operations at HARAS DAS MANGUEIRAS is the raising and training of the highest quality Lusitanos, in an environment that fosters excellence in health, performance and docility.
